MySpace may soon add IPTV content to its social network. According to a report in News Blaze, the News Corp. property has quietly locked up TV talent to launch online-only shows for the MySpace audience.
While MySpace has refused to comment on the rumor, ZDNet.com blogger Steve O'Hear says such a move would make sense.
"The idea seems a perfectly valid one," O'Hear wrote. "Firstly, Murdoch and company have a background in TV and access to plenty of talent and muscle in the entertainment industry. Align this with the biggest social networking site on the planet, and the chances of success, on paper at least, look high."
The News Blaze report suggests that among those MySpace has looked to are Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz, who produced "My So-Called Life." According to the News Blaze story, MySpace has budgeted as much as $400,000 per internet episode.
