Ignore Twitter Specs: Tips for the New Profile Update

Ignore Twitter Specs: Tips for the New Profile Update iMedia Editors
The new Twitter profile is a much better format for brands, although you may find it a little bit challenging making the updates.

Twitters specs are 1500x500 for the main header image, but after loading our new cover photo, we realized the images were getting cut off. After a few tweaks, we chatted with Twitter and found that they are cropping the image and it is actually a different optimal size that should be used.

What we learned: As approximately 125px will be cropped within the header image area, you will want to adjust to 1500x375, additionally, since our images were close to the edges, our designer went back and added 125px border to the top & bottom as unused space.

A few rounds later, we finally got to a good place, so save yourself some time, and ignore Twitters specs and use ours.

Where we landed:

Some great improvements to the profile otherwise:

• The profile picture is now 400x400 pixels, which is a much larger, stand-out approach.

• The name, handle, bio, and pictures are all now on the left-hand side of the page below the profile picture.

• The "Who to Follow" and "Trends" modules are now on the opposite side of the page.

•  The tabs that display tweets, following and, followers are to the right of the profile picture and directly below the header.

•  There are now additional tabs for Favorites, photos/videos, and lists included with the standard tabs.

• On the new profile pages, your tweets now take up the majority of the page and are more “news feed” like.

• Finally, if you select one of the other tabs under your header image the information is presented to you in a Pinterest-like board of your followers or those you follow.

Enjoy and use our specs to save you time and get your profile updates in as soon as possible as Twitter will change them for you if you are not on top of it!
