Viacom Spites YouTube with Joost

Days ago, Viacom, Inc. demanded the removal of 100,000 video clips that were uploaded to YouTube without authorization. Today, the media giant announced that it has agreed to post the videos to Joost, a YouTube competitor founded by the creators of Skype.

Viacom and Google Inc.'s YouTube have been publicly quarreling over the protected copyright material after failing to reach a distribution agreement in February. Viacom has also been exploring the possibility of launching its own video-sharing site, along with News Corp. and GE's NBC Universal, but the plan has been repeatedly stalled.

It seems now that the executives at Viacom have lost patience with the whole fiasco, and Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, the creators of Joost, are reaping the benefits.
