Yahoo! is reportedly in talks to expand a deal to share advertising and editorial content with about 250 daily newspapers across the U.S., according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
The partnership, which began in November when seven news outlets partnered with Yahoo for classified ads on HotJobs, has continued to grow, with the latest possible addition coming in the form of McClatchy Co., the nation's second largest newspaper publisher.
One executive close to the deal said landing McClatchy was critical because the publisher was a "swing vote" in the industry, helping to bring more print media outlets over to Yahoo.
The rumored deal comes on the heels of a recent coup by Yahoo, which announced that it had inked a partnership with Viacom to provide search and contextual ad for 33 of the media giant's websites.
