Video meets iPod and iTunes
When Steve Jobs strapped on his New Balances and announced the video iPod in 2005, portable video went from concept to reality nearly overnight. In order to support the new devices, iTunes underwent a simultaneous change and added video content to its download store. Now iTunes offers everything from independent music videos to blockbuster feature films for download. Apple is helping traditional media titans see the value of providing content for online distribution.

Why it's important:
- Apple's endorsement delivers greater validity to the online video medium.
- Mobile video expectations, while still high, begin steps toward realization. Marketers may consider mobile video as an eventual reality rather than a futurist's prognostication.
