Fox Interactive Media, a division of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., has announced plans to launch an ad-supported version of MySpace for mobile.
The WAP site will allow MySpace devotees to send and receive messages, comment on pictures, post bulletins, update blogs and locate their friends all from a mobile device.
A mobile version of the site with more features is available for a price to Helio customers.
"Accessing the internet from your mobile phone will soon be as common as text messaging and voice calling," said John Smelzer, SVP of mobile for Fox Interactive Media. "It's our belief that this mobile web experience should be ad-supported and free to users. With our well-established carrier partnerships and our 80 million U.S. visitors per month, Fox Interactive Media is uniquely positioned to bring the internet to users on mobile phones."
According to Smelzer, MySpace will spearhead the company's mobile push. Fox Interactive plans to launch mobile versions of some of its other properties, including IGN and Rotten Tomatoes.
Millennial Media will provide the mobile advertising technology to support the new products.
