Couponing on Facebook

Beyond its stores and products, Whole Foods is also known for its strong social media presence. It has a well-coordinated presence across Facebook, the blogosphere, Twitter and MySpace, among others. One specific area that Whole Foods uses well is couponing through Facebook.

While Facebook's group feature often has very little value for companies other than declaring brand affinity, Whole Foods has created a call-to-action through couponing. Given the current economy, coupons are becoming more popular, and through Facebook and its blog, Whole Foods is providing utility to its followers while also keeping them engaged.

Why Whole Foods' approach is successful:

  • Provides utility to end-user
  • Creates a call-to-action
  • Creates a multichannel experience between social media and the store
  • Keeps Whole Foods top of mind
