Internet users are fickle, and second chances are rare in the rapidly evolving world of online. For all the sites that emerged triumphant through the dotcom bust, there are just as many that never saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Remember Lycos, Excite, and Friendster?
Now there's a growing chorus of industry watchers who say MySpace could be next, CNN reports. The early leader in social networking has flatlined and lost its coolness, while Twitter and Facebook surge in popularity.
"I guess you could say MySpace is in danger of falling into the same black hole," Richard MacManus, founder and editor of ReadWriteWeb, told CNN. "If you look at the history, MySpace is going to disappear over time."
While it's still possible, some analysts predict MySpace will buck the trend and stage a reversal of fortunes sometime soon.
