Dell continues to prove Twitter's worth

For all the incessant chatter about Twitter not defining a way to make money, Dell stands out as one company that has continued to turn its tweets into sales. The computer maker says it has tweeted its way to $3 million in sales over the last two years, including $1 million in the last six months, Business Insider reports.

That number isn't going to make or break Dell in the long term, but there are surely thousands of smaller companies that are frothing at the mouth over equal potential. Dell counts 600,000 followers on its Twitter page and generates about $2 of revenue per follower, per year based on its success thus far.

Business Insider wonders if Dell would be willing to pay $1 each year per follower. That's one way Twitter could start making cash, but it's hard to see Twitter getting rich off that, Business Insider adds. Nonetheless, if Dell gathers 1 million followers soon and other Fortune 500 companies follow suit, there could be some serious money in there for Twitter and its backers.

"Business Insider wonders if Dell would be willing to pay $1 each year per follower."

No way.
Because:
"Dell counts 600,000 followers on its Twitter page and generates about $2 of revenue per follower"

Based on the low profit margins, a $6 revenue per follower only translates to approx 20 cents profit per follower - so how can Business Insider even consider paying $1 for each??!!
