Several advertisers on Facebook are enraged and frustrated to find themselves embroiled in a possible click fraud scam. Facebook's small self-serve advertisers are alleging that the website is artificially inflating click numbers by anywhere between 20 percent to 100 percent, according to TechCrunch. Discrepancies were noted through independent tracking softwares.
Click fraud is usually perpetuated by robots that inflate numbers through irrelevant clicks. What makes this situation different is that Facebook is reporting clicks that simply don't exist at all.
Facebook's Brandon McCormick has responded to these allegations by admitting that there is a problem: "Over the past few days, we have seen an increase in suspicious clicks," he said. "We have identified a solution which we have already begun to implement and expect will be completely rolled out by the end of today. In addition, we are identifying impacted accounts and will ensure that advertisers are credited appropriately."
