Just as online publishers ready new, enlarged ad units, YouTube has finally released the Call-to-Action Overlay that lets advertisers direct viewers to any site of their choice, MarketingVox reports.
The semi-transparent pop-up gives advertisers the first opportunity to encourage YouTube users to visit another online destination. Prior to this, advertisers had to include a link in the summary of the video -- not an ideal call-to-action strategy.
YouTube says it has made efforts to diminish any negative effects that might come from driving traffic off-site.
