Amazon has filed two patent requests for placing contextual advertisements within electronic books downloaded for the company's Kindle e-reader, according to Fast Company.
The patents lay out a scenario where if a restaurant is mentioned on one page, the next page could contain an ad for restaurants and dining. The patent requests, which can be read here and here, make it clear that Amazon is possibly exploring this option in response to Google Books.
In the request titled "Incorporating Advertising in On-demand Generated Content," Amazon lays out clearly that "internet sites that publish content are able to do so profitably by displaying advertisements with the published content."
