Facebook is stickiest site on the internet

It could be a sign of boredom in a down economy, or it could be a sign that social networks are here to stay. Regardless, the average U.S. internet user spent four hours and 39 minutes on Facebook in June, according to a report (PDF) from Nielsen, making the social network the stickiest website on the internet.

Users spent nearly an hour and a half more on Facebook than on the runner-up, Yahoo, and the social network also outpaced internet giants such as Google, AOL, and eBay. Facebook had the sixth largest audience -- 87 million users -- in the U.S. for the month as well.

Google's family of websites attracted an audience of 155.6 million users, the largest in the U.S., and those users averaged roughly two and a half hours on Google's suite of tools and applications.
