Has the next Twitter already arrived?

Twitter racked up 44.5 million visitors last month, leaving little doubt about its popularity with consumers. But like other social networks before it, Twitter could eventually go the way of the dinosaurs, and another social media service will assume its place.

That service could very well be Tumblr, a simple-blogging tool that bears some similarities to Twitter and already claims to be "taking over the world," despite remaining relatively under the radar. Tumblr, which lets users email blog posts or record them via a phone call, enjoyed traffic quite similar to Twitter in July -- 255 million page views and 50 million visitors, according to Mashable.

Tumblr occupies the middle-ground between Twitter and normal blogging, offering the quick-posting abilities present in Twitter, but branching out to include pictures, audio, and video in addition to text. Like Twitter, Tumblr currently has no advertising on its pages.

Tumblr is the next Twitter! A must have tool for anyone wanting to start blogging. I'm a bad fan of Tumblr and have been using this advanced microblogging service for a couple of months, the functionality is excellent and so simple to use. That's probably why it has been so successful over the past year. Although, there are some limitations with the service, I've found that my blog doesn't get picked up by Technorati. I first started using Twitter and realised that sometimes 140 characters was not enough to explain my thoughts, so I ended up trialing Tumblr, which has now become my preferred personal blogging platform. I would definitely recommend setting up a Tumblr account if you want to start blogging.
