Is Twitter's time in the marketing spotlight fading fast? It was just last week that the microblogging website was valued at $1 billion, but a new study reveals Twitter's registered users aren't actually tweeting their lives away.
Roughly one quarter (24 percent) of Twitter users have never tweeted or have ceased doing so, according to data from audience measurement firm Crowd Science. That number is very close to the percentage of users who tweet on a daily basis (27 percent).
Also of note from Crowd Science's survey of 600,000 internet users is the amount of Twitter lurkers -- users who only visit the service to check status updates. The study found that 46 percent of users visit the website to check updates daily, but don't necessarily post.
While the study reveals that Twitter users aren't necessarily active all the time, its core users are social media addicts. Nearly one third (32 percent) feel they spend too much time using social media, and 16 percent said they often neglect important activities to use social media. Interestingly enough, those who do tweet often have a little bit of Twitter regret -- 22 percent said they've posted tweets they later regretted sharing.
