While Google is planning to acquire a new company every month of the year, its main search rival, Microsoft, will not be following suit.
Microsoft chief Steve Ballmer told Reuters that the company will stand pat for the time being and focus on getting its search deal with Yahoo through the regulatory process. The company is also freezing its research and development budget at $9.5 billion to preserve resources for a fight with Google.
"We're trying to give Google a little competition in the search business," Ballmer said. "They've been trying to give us a little competition in some other ways."
Since launching earlier this year, Microsoft's Bing has ever so slightly chipped away at Google's market share, but the most recent numbers from StatCounter indicate that Bing's share fell 1 percent in September, according to Reuters.
