Clearly the commenters here are from western nations, I'm guessing America. Sure, video is fun and should be in the mix. But many countries, even big ones, have abysmal Internet speeds for the common man and video is looked upon as a pain. Surely in emails. That's the quickest way to get yourself blacklisted. Video, or rich visual content of other types, should be smartly included.
Online video applies to many of the trends identified in this piece. Through web video marketing, video becomes part of a push strategy. Additionally, stand-alone video landing pages or microsites are a great way to continue to engage an audience and it is easy to incorporate video into existing email campaigns.
I completely agree with Mark. Video is a MUST in your marketing campaigns, at the top of the list in fact. We are a visual market and want to see, experience what you're talking about, not just reading about it on a blog, or hearing about it. People are promoting themselves, so people can get to know the people behind the product since people don't buy from websites, they buy from people - and not just any person - people they TRUST!
My experience with static website owners and e-mailers is that they are behind the curve on adapting to what the audience wants and responds to most-Video Both segments lack the retention and conversion ratios that video could assist.
