A few weeks ago, the bigwigs at Facebook said they felt the social media world was big enough for both Twitter and Facebook. There's a good reason why the folks at Facebook aren't worried; Twitter poses absolutely no threat to Facebook's social networking supremacy, according to Hitwise analyst Bill Tancer.
Facebook currently accounts for 6 percent of all U.S. internet visits, while Twitter is barely a blip on the radar, accounting for 0.14 percent, according to Hitwise data. Visits to Twitter's domain have also been in steady decline since peaking in July.
However, Tancer and several others are quick to point out that Twitter traffic numbers only factor in visits to its domain. Nearly half of all Twitter users access the service from third-party applications or mobile devices.
