Neither snow, nor rain, nor length of flight will stop Delta Air Lines passengers from shopping online from Nov. 24-30, thanks to a holiday promotion from eBay.
The online retailer will be offering free Wi-Fi on nearly 300 Delta airplanes flying to domestic locations, according to AdvertisingAge. Giving frenzied holiday travelers some extra shopping time during this key week of the holiday season is a slick move for eBay, both in terms of attracting new customers and enhancing its public image.
"We're doing a number of things this holiday season to reengage consumers around the great selection and deals available on eBay," said Alan Marks, senior VP-corporate communications. "People can make an immediate purchase from the air or just see things that they think are interesting and want to flag, and then go do some price comparison."
The retailer will be tracking the log-ins and general usage of the service, which is provided by GoGo, an inflight internet service provider. According to Marks, by directing passengers to eBay's holiday homepage, the retailer will be able to showcase its "Daily Deals," and alert consumers that the site, known for its auction-based commerce, has shifted its product mix to include more brand-name goods.
