ASPY awards its 2009 winners

The Aspen Group, an informal association of interactive media directors, strategists, planners, and buyers, announced the winners of the seventh annual ASPY awards at the iMedia Agency Summit in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Tuesday.

Started in 2003, the ASPY awards were created by the Aspen group to salute the best work performed by advertising media sales organizations each year.

Dave Smith, CEO of Mediasmith, and Jason Burnham, CEO of Burnham Marketing, presented the awards at a special lunch-time ceremony.

WeatherBug won the ASPY for Best Customer Service, besting a field that included Centro, Collective Media, Gorilla Nation, and interClick.

Turn.com, a digital advertising platform, took home the award for Best Innovation, a category that also featured AdConion, Brand Affinity Technologies, EyeWonder, and YouTube. Meanwhile, Yelp's highly lauded augmented reality app for the iPhone, one of the first of its kind, won the Best New App ASPY, ahead of other nominees AppSavvy, Meebo, Gigya, and Pandora, which had launched an acclaimed iPhone app itself this year.

DoubleClick won the ASPY for Best Overall Partner, a category that also recognized AdConion, AOL, Tremor Media, and Yahoo.

Chris Cunningham, CEO and founder of appssavvy, took home the final ASPY, the Old-Timer of Year award.
