Things were looking a bit dodgy at Yahoo earlier this year, with declines in search ad sales and the loss of search market share to Bing. But Yahoo officials say a new focus on search is increasing ad revenue, which, combined with climbing display revenue, could signal that 2010 will be the year of Yahoo.
Tim Morse, Yahoo CFO, said the company has made "great strides" in search revenue this quarter, thanks in part to the holidays and homepage redesigns that emphasize search, according to paidContent. Morse's remarks come less than a week after CEO Carol Bartz said Yahoo's display revenue was on an upswing.
With a search advertising deal with Microsoft kicking in soon, many have written Yahoo off as a has-been in the search field. That's hardly the case, Morse said, speaking at the Barclays Global Capital Technology Conference this week. Even after the deal goes into effect, Yahoo will continue to innovate and improve its user experience. It is even adding Twitter data to its results pages, a move that mirrors Bing and Google.
