Agency develops Facebook retail tool

As consumers flock to Facebook, agencies and their clients are looking for more creative ways to reach them. Ohio-based digital agency Resource Interactive has found a way to do that by utilizing the most popular Facebook component -- the wall.

The agency created a platform that lets consumers make purchases from a retailer directly from the Facebook wall or news feed without ever leaving the page, according to Ad Age. The "Off the Wall" platform launched this month with retailer The Limited, and used the technology to hawk a popular scarf, letting consumers pick their color and purchase it directly from the page.

Resource Interactive is opening the technology up to both clients and others, and by doing so has received interest from perspective new clients, as well as queries from international agencies looking to bring Off the Wall to other countries.

Proof that web development firms must be as focused on social application integration. We work with major electronics manufacturers in our agency and there's just a dramatic shift away from the website as parts catalog but brands are so slow to make the move. Why?

Looking forward to shaking things up in 2010.
