Google will now use consumers' search histories to serve more relevant ads across the web. Previously, the search giant served ads from its AdSense server on a query-by-query basis, matching relevant ads to a user's keyword search.
Google will store the information by using an existing advertising cookie, the company said in a blog post. Consumers can expect to see ads related to their earlier searches hours after the fact, and those ads will appear on both the Google search engine and other websites running the AdSense platform.
Google said it would only use past queries to serve relevant ads for "a few hours," but did not give a definite time period. Consumers can still opt out of the search giant's advertising cookie to avoid having their data stored.
