Google builds a timeline of every tweet

Google is slated to launch a searchable timeline of every Twitter message published. Tweets will be grouped by topic, and the format will allow users to see when tweet activity was highest for their search query. When a certain date is selected, the messages will pop up in the form of a scrolling list. The program will launch in the next few days.

As of now, the backlog stops at February of this year, but there are plans to stretch it back to March 2006, when Twitter was first introduced, according to CNET. A Google representative, who was approached on the topic of privacy, stressed that the timeline will not include deleted tweets; users can simply remove messages that are considered embarrassing or incriminating.

Though Twitter has its own search page, users have found its limits stifling. The results are often grouped around trending topics, or simply lack any form of organization. Whereas Twitter's search page is seen as a hodgepodge of information, the Google program will work as a practical archive.

Google has shown considerable interest in the real-time market lately. Last December it rolled out a real-time search feature. And while Twitter accounts for big portions of the real-world realm, Google is also setting its sights on status messages and other forms of microblogging.
