John Weller brings over 15 years of experience in the arts and media to his role as Director of Creative Strategy for Sony Pictures Interactive. In his role, Weller provides creative direction and campaign strategy for agency clients from the ideation of digital campaign concepts through execution. Notable campaigns for Sony Pictures include The Amazing Spider-Man, Casino Royale, Ghostbusters, Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune, Battle: Los Angeles, District 9, Terminator Salvation, Looper, Machete, Surf’s Up, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The Smurfs and Hotel Transylvania.
Weller also manages the copywriting department and social media creative and strategy on behalf of agency clients, and oversees the overall marketing, public relations and business development efforts of Sony Pictures Interactive.
Prior to joining Sony Pictures Interactive, Weller worked extensively in nonprofit public relations throughout Los Angeles most notably for the Geffen Playhouse and Los Angeles Opera.
Concurrently with his role at Sony Pictures Interactive, Weller is visiting adjunct faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles teaching digital marketing strategy and tactics for MFA students in the School of Theater, Film & Television and MBA students in the Anderson School of Management. Weller also is a frequent guest lecturer at the University of Southern California and for UniJapan / METI – a non-profit organization supported by Japanese government’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
A native of St. Louis, MO, Weller received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Tulsa and his master’s degree from University of California, Los Angeles.
