Richard M. Bagdonas is the co-founder and CTO of Mahana, an iBeacon platform company that enables hotels, casinos, and restaurants with technology that customizes each guest's experience – leading to higher spend. Bagdonas has been building technology and service companies for over 25 years, having started his first company to provide a hardware-based voice recognition solution. Since then, two of his companies have become publicly traded, and several have been acquired. He is a recognized expert in both point-of-sale integration and electronic medical record integration using HL7 – the protocol used to transmit patient records to EMR systems. While working in the telecommunications industry, he authored four books on telecommunications and data network design and engineering, as well as co-authoring a book on the convergence of voice, video, and data communications.
Bagdonas has previously served as a technical consultant to the U.S. Air Force and to the Pentagon, where he received commendations for his work with satellite technologies used by the 1st Combat Camera Squadron. He holds a commercial pilot license from the Federal Aviation Administration.
In his spare time, Bagdonas is the executive director emeritus at Operation Turkey, a nonprofit he founded 15 years ago to feed and clothe the homeless at Thanksgiving.
