As SVP of merchandising at, Kelly Thompson oversees merchandising, merchandise planning, and Walmart marketplace for the online business of the world's largest retailer. She was promoted to this position in early 2012.


Thompson joined in 2007 as VP of merchandising, home, apparel, and baby. She was promoted in 2008 and assumed additional responsibility for all categories of merchandising, as well as merchandise planning and pricing. She manages a team of more than 150 and oversees all merchandise departments, including electronics, toys, sports, movies, books, video games, home, apparel, jewelry, outdoor living, appliances, baby and gift items, consumables, and health and wellness.


In January of 2013, she was named chair of Mike Duke's President's Global Council of Women Leaders, an advisory group and organizational catalyst for women at Walmart. Thompson is passionate about diversity and also serves as one of the five executive sponsors for the Global eCommerce Women's Resource Council.


Prior to joining, Thompson spent 10 years at Gap, Inc., most recently as divisional merchandising manager of the adult accessories division Gap U.S. Prior to that role, she served as BabyGap's divisional merchandising manager, as well as filling additional field and merchandising roles. Earlier in her career, Thompson spent three years at Nordstrom in various management roles.


Thompson received her bachelor's of science, biology/animal physiology and neuroscience from the University of California, San Diego. She lives in the Bay Area with her husband and two young children, spending most of her free time enjoying the great outdoors and learning new things with her family. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas.'s offices are located in San Bruno, California.
