Denis Murphy, president and founder of the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, graduated from the University of Albany in 1985 with a master's degree in Marketing. While at Albany, Murphy was captain of the football team and met his future wife, Lynda, who also graduated from Albany with a master's degree in Business Education.
After graduating from Albany, Murphy worked on Wall Street for a number of years. Following his tenure on Wall Street, he became national sales manager for Vax Appliances, a senior account manager for Philip Morris, and then regional manager at Common Wealth Brands.
In 2004, Murphy's young daughter, Jaclyn, was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, and in 2005, the Murphy family started the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ) to improve the quality of life for children with pediatric brain tumors through relationships with high school, college, and professional athletic teams. Currently, Murphy dedicates his time and efforts to his work as president of FOJ. Through his work with the foundation, Murphy has become a staple in the Mid-Hudson Valley community, whether on the courts or on the fields or the inside the classroom. Murphy considers his family – Lynda, Jaclyn, and Taryn – his greatest accomplishment, and plans to continue the growth of Friends of Jaclyn with their love and support. Lynda Murphy is currently the business teacher at John Jay High School, Jaclyn is a junior at Marist College, and Taryn just started her freshman year at Chestnut Hill College in Pennsylvania.
The Murphy family currently resides in Hopewell Junction, New York.
