TV Anywhere recently announced its upcoming plans to make American television programming available to subscribers residing outside of the U.S. This new service will allow viewers to watch live linear TV, on-demand movies and shows, and daily local news on either a PC client or a digital IP based set top box connected to the subscriber's television. The service is also broadband enabled.
"Our goal is to make the viewing experience very similar to what subscribers currently enjoy from existing digital cable or satellite providers. We know that over 12 million Americans have chosen to move outside of the borders of the USA and still have the desire to connect with 'home' via their entertainment choices. We will offer a unique opportunity for Americans living abroad to watch the same programming that they have become accustomed to in the USA, anywhere in the world," says Tom Ma, CEO of TV Anywhere.
As of now, TV Anywhere already has agreements with several broadcasters for distributing programming content and plans to work with more throughout the year to gain a wider spectrum of programs. The company is planning an early 2007 launch for the new service.
"TV Anywhere introduces one of the very few opportunities for advertisers to purchase avails that will be international in their scope. Currently a local ad insert will reach a very limited market while TV Anywhere plans to sell ad space to multi-national companies looking to reach a very dispersed international audience. The very nature of TV Anywhere's distribution platform and international reach, now allows companies to market anywhere in the world with a single point of contact," says Mike Earle, co-founder & president, TV Anywhere, Inc.
