Poll: Web Viewers Shun Lengthy Videos

AOL Inc. and the Associated Press released a study that found only one in five online video viewers have watched or downloaded a full-length movie or TV show. The report found that online viewers prefer to watch shorter format videos.

The study found that more than 50 percent of internet users have watched or downloaded a video. News clips were the most popular online video format seen by 72 percent of online viewers.

Hollywood studios and TV networks have been making old and current programs available online-- free with commercials or $1.99 an episode through download services like Apple Computer Inc.'s iTunes.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has made a deal with AOL to sell programs or show ad-supported shows through AOL.

"Rome wasn't built in a day," Benjamin Feingold, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, told the AP. "A lot of progress has been made in terms of the quality of video and audio on the web. It's not the same as broadcast or DVD, but it's improving."
