Pew: The Future of the Internet II Study

The Pew Internet & American Life Project and Elon University announced the release of "The Future of the Internet II," a study that predicts by 2020 a low-cost global network will be thriving.

Forty-two percent surveyed believe that humans will have less control of technology and that there will be a danger of human dependence on technology. Forty-six percent believe that the world will be a better place by 2020 due to "the greater transparency of people and institutions afforded by the internet."

"English will be a universal language of global communications, but other languages will not be displaced. Indeed, many felt other languages such as Mandarin, would grow in prominence," according to the report's abstract
