MySpace May Launch China Site

News Corp.'s head Rupert Murdoch said he was in talks to potentially establish MySpace in China, The San Francisco Chronical reported.

Murdoch, who was speaking at a Goldman Sachs conference, predicts that MySpace will be in 10 or 11 of the world's biggest countries next year. MySpace currently has local editions in United Kingdom, Australia and other countries.

China's internet has seen a boom in recent years. The number of blogs in China has topped 34 million, an increase of more than 30 times from four years ago, reported the Associated Press. Advertisers are looking to tap into this huge market.

There has been criticism of the Chinese government censoring sites and keywords that are politically charged. Murdoch says he is aware of the potential challenges.

"We have to make MySpace a very Chinese site, which is really why I sent my wife there, because she's Chinese and understands it," says Murdoch.

In August, Fox Interactive Media, which includes MySpace, logged nearly 33.8 billion page views, second only to Yahoo, according to comScore Media Metrix.
