Product Placement Meets User-Gen Videos

Entertainment Media Works is planning to enable product linking in user-generated media, reported ClickZ.

The New York and Los Angeles-based company calls their solution "plinking." When deployed, content producers can freeze a single frame and define an area where the product is located.

MIT Ad Lab, which also tracked this story, asks if popular video-sharing site YouTube will allow this product placement in order to drive advertising revenue. However, the availability of adding product linking to user-generated media may open up more potential paths for spammer, noted the Lab.
