Adweek reports that Buick's one-minute video for its 2007 Enclave SUV had moved up to eighth place on YouTube by the morning of November 10th, only one day after posted.
The video is designed to look like it was created by an amateur who snuck onto the set while the brand was filming a commercial for the SUV with Tiger Woods. The image is fuzzy, the angle unstable, and the video ends when one of the crew realizes that there is an errant cameraman in their midst.
But the amateur quality was neatly scripted. Dave Darovitz, Buick's communications manager, explains, "The goal was to get people talking, not just on YouTube but on the auto blogs. We engineered the spot on the PR side and worked with marketing to create this disruptive approach to get the word out about the Enclave and to get Tiger involved."
The model will replace the Buick Rainier and Rendezvous SUVs, as GM aims to streamline its offerings.
