NBC Takes iVillage to TV

NBC Universal plans to launch a new television show based on its iVillage internet community for women over its Bravo cable network and its 10 owned-and-operated TV stations, reports Reuters.

The General Electric Co.-owned media conglomerate purchased iVillage this year for about $600 million and has identified the property as an important element to its strategy for reaping profit growth out of the internet.

"This is a real interactive, online and on-the-air television program that we are not going to judge by its ratings," NBC Universal Television Chief Executive Jeff Zucker told the Credit Suisse media and telecom conference in New York. He did not elaborate on the program's format.

"There's a tremendous amount of sales integration and online activity," he said.

NBC says it expects to generate about $300 million to $400 million in revenue from its digital businesses in 2006.
