Top Media Execs Praise Digital

USA TODAY's David Lieberman, covering two media conferences, reports that top media execs are counting on new media to pay off.

Although News Corp. President Peter Chernin said at the UBS Global Media Conference that how to deal with digital is "the single biggest issue facing media companies," execs there and at the Credit Suisse Media and Telecom Week say they're confident in new media's ability to make money.

NBC Universal Television Group CEO Jeff Zucker told Credit Suisse that his company will make as much as $400 million in revenue from its digital operations in 2006; $1 billion by 2009.

Yesterday, NBC announced it is taking its iVillage website content to TV and that it has relaunched its CNBC site.

Recently, IAC/InterActiveCorp. Chief Executive Barry Diller announced his intents to embrace more internet initiatives in the near future rather than newspapers. Diller said IAC's mix of dozens of different internet properties working together is beginning to prove itself and the advantages should become clearer in a few years.
