comScore networks reports that this year's Cyber Monday on December 4th was the heaviest ecommerce day on record with $647 million spent.
The online research company also found that online non-travel (retail) spending at U.S. sites during the first 35 days of the holiday shopping season reached $13.7 billion. That figure represents a 25 percent increase versus the corresponding days in 2005.
"Online consumer spending continues to be very strong with 25 percent growth versus last year," says Gian Fulgoni, chairman of comScore Networks. "Monday, December 4th set a record for spending in a single day, as consumers opened their wallets online to the tune of $647 million, a 26-percent increase versus the corresponding day last year."
