Control Room has pulled its blog-targeted ad campaign for upcoming performances of the artist known as Pink. The ads were pulled at the request of MSN because they were considered in poor taste.
Banner's with messages such as "See the real Pink!" were meant to make jabs at recent photos of celebrities such as Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, and Paris Hilton sans-underwear and were to appear on celebrity blogs such as PerezHilton.com, Pink is the New Blog, and The Superficial.
The campaign was created by Control Room, an independent company that produced on-demand concerts for MSN reports AdWeek. The ads were "counter to MSN's brand identity," declared Rob Bennet, MSN's GM for entertainment.
Pink has been labeled the anti-pop star with songs such as Stupid Girls poking fun at her counterparts-- but MSN was uncomfortable having racy banner ad's along side its logo. Sites such as Perez Hilton and Pink is the New Blog are known for lambasting celebrities for their forays into drug use and forgetful underwear practices, but larger companies such as MSN have found it difficult to advertise to this demographic while remaining at a suitable level of taste.
The ads, which were still available for viewing at press time, have since been removed.
