MTV & Vice Launch Online Channel

MediaPost reports that MTV has teamed with Vice Magazine to target the 18-34 male demographic with the launch of www.vbs.tv, a broadband channel that offers video content.

The site is subtitled, "Rescuing you from television's deathlike grip." Its vibe is humorous and raw. The About page reads, "VBS is an online broadcast network. We stream original content, free of charge and 24 hours a day. We carry a mix of domestic and international news, pop and underground culture coverage, and the best music in the world. People have used words like eclectic, smart, funny, shocking, and revolutionary to describe VBS, but we kind of just snapped our fingers in their faces and went, 'Whatever. Tell us something we don't know.'"

With offices in 20 countries around the world, Spike Jonze is VBS' creative director. The site will run advertising, although currently it is video-content heavy.

The launch of VBS comes days after MTV announced that it would cut staff by 250 and refocus its online divisions.
