In an effort to boost its web video presence, DaimlerChrysler has secured more than 1,000 terms that will link to streaming clips on the Vibrant Media network.
After years of struggling sales, DaimlerChrysler has decided to act on an emerging market and will now link words that it associates with its brands with a streaming clip that users can click on and go to the website. For example, the words "freedom" or "adventure" showing up on Popularmechanics.com would link to a Jeep website.
The Vibrant Media network is composed of more than 1,600 websites, from FoxSports.com to Heart properties. Daimler will have to pay around $7 per click for the service, but the streams average about 20 views per click.
The network has come under fire from editors in the past, arguing that advertising should not intrude on news stories. In-text advertising has since become the mainstream with behemoth clients like Sony and Microsoft signing with the company.
"We're offering video advertising the user can choose to see or not to see," Vibrant Media CEO Doug Stevenson said. "We're addressing the issue of not applying the old TV model to the web."
