MySpace Goes Political

MySpace has announced the launch of a politics channel called Impact.

The site will feature links to the profiles of 10 presidential candidates, divided evenly between Democrats and Republicans. The announcement comes after candidates have vowed to use the internet to communicate with voters.

This has been particularly helpful in reaching the notoriously hard-to-reach young adult demographic. Sen. Barack Obama, for example, has already swept up more than 66,000 friends, many of whom will likely amount to a vote in his favor.

"Our digital candidates banner will be the yard signs of the 21st Century and our political viral videos and vlogs (video blogs) are the campaign ads of the future," Chris DeWolfe, MySpace chief executive, said in a statement.
