More women in the U.S. use the internet, according to a recent study by eMarketer, but men favor online video by a significant margin.
While there are about 97 million U.S. women online, compared to about 91 million men, only 66 percent of females reported watching videos online, compared to 78 percent for their male counterparts.
"Men are more visual than women, who tend to communicate in writing and or in words," said Debra Aho Williamson, senior analyst with eMarketer and the author of the report.
According to Williamson, men are more likely to use the internet to have fun, while women are more likely to go online to accomplish tasks and chores.
Williamson added that sites such as YouTube would continue to be male-dominated, but she said the gender gap for online video should narrow considerably in the years to come.
