Not everyone will get in on the YouTube ad revenue stream, but the Google-owned property announced on its blog that a select few YouTube users would be added to the ranks of content partners.
"Up until now there’s been a distinction between the content you create and the content created by YouTube's professional content partners," the company said on its blog. "We want to start changing some of the perception here. Which is why we’re adding several of the most popular and prolific original content creators from the YouTube community to our partnership program."
Among those users who joined the likes of media giants such as NBC were LisaNova, renetto, smosh and Lonelygirl15.
With a growing list of popular content providers, YouTube has said it plans to launch ad-supported videos sometime this summer.
