Photobucket Finally Says Yes to MySpace

It took nearly a month, but Photobucket has accepted an offer from News Corp. to acquire the photo-sharing site.

While financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, News Corp. was rumored to have offered Photobucket $250 million earlier this month.

Photobucket Vice President of Sales Peter Foster confirmed the deal, saying that Photobucket's core business of giving users the best media sharing, linking and searching experience on the internet would remain the same.

Photobucket is expected to operate as an independent business under the Fox Interactive umbrella.

While the acquisition gives News Corp. another tool in its growing interactive arsenal as well as access to 40 million registered users, it also solves a recent spat over the use of Photobucket-generated widget campaigns on MySpace.

In a separate deal, News Corp. also announced the acquisition of Flektor Inc., which offers internet-based tools for creating slideshows, video mashups and other interactive presentations.

"As a leading site for creative expression, Photobucket extends our reach among personal media-sharing enthusiasts, and the innovative new entrant Flektor brings highly differentiated new tools to the table that will drive the next generation," Peter Levinsohn, president of Fox Interactive Media, said in a statement. "Together, they represent a powerful combination and we are thrilled for them to join our network."
