Murdoch Speaks, Bancrofts Listen

News Corp. boss Rupert Murdoch finally got to make his face-to-face pitch to the Bancroft family nearly a month after they rejected his $5 billion bid for the Dow Jones company, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

Late last week, news broke that the Bancrofts, who control Dow Jones and its subsidiary, the Wall Street Journal, had agreed to hear Murdoch's proposal.

According to the most recent WSJ report, Murdoch called the four-hour meeting "constructive."

A spokesman for the Bancrofts also called the dialogue constructive, saying the family would now consider its position.

Many have speculated as to why Murdoch, who owns a slew of daily newspapers, might want the Dow Jones, with some pundits calling it the potential jewel in his long-awaited business news channel, and others insisting that the media titan wants a successful online subscription property.
