TiVo, Amazon Offer Downloads to TV

Without the use of a personal computer, Amazon.com and TiVo have partnered to allow users to download pay-per-view movies and TV shows directly to TV sets, effective today.

The programs, priced on average at about $4 for a film rental and about $2 for a TV program, will be viewable after it downloads to the TiVo set-top box.

Users with high-speed internet connections can select from a library of about 10,000 movies and TV shows.

The service, known as "Amazon Unbox on TiVo," was first unveiled in February, but originally it required a PC.

In April, The New York Times reported that TiVo's future business model was to transition from a DVR provider that allowed users to skip ads into an internet portal
