Google's long-awaited technology aimed at combating internet video pirates will be ready sometime in September, according to a report in PC World.
News that the video fingerprint technology would soon be available came to light in a New York federal court, where Google is currently facing accusations of copyright infringement from Viacom.
A lawyer for Google told the court that Google was working "very intensely" on the video recognition technology.
A spokesman for YouTube agreed with the lawyer's statements, but some clarifications.
"We hope to have the testing completed and technology available by some time in the fall, but this is one of the most technologically complicated tasks that we have ever undertaken, and as always with cutting-edge technologies, it's difficult to forecast specific launch dates," YouTube said in a statement.
