With domain names like CouponGoogle.com cropping up, speculation is growing that Google may be looking to get into the coupon business. The search giant could be looking to offer advertisers an extra option in time for the holiday shopping season, according to a report from WebProNews.
If the speculation is accurate, a coupon program could be a nice fit with Google's Checkout service, which allows users to pay for online purchases. Such a move would further enhance Google's feud with eBay, which pulled some of its dollars from Google's U.S. network when the search giant threw a Checkout launch party that effectively crashed eBay's Boston conference.
A coupon feature also would give Google an edge in the growing local business market. However, if Google plans to enter the holiday retail market, it needs to act fast, with Thanksgiving only six weeks away.
