Do Americans hate the ad industry?

Only 14 percent of Americans respect ad industry professionals, according to a study by ad firm JWT.

Soldiers, doctors and teachers got high marks from the nearly 1,000 American who participated in the online survey, which was reported by DMNews.

The study revealed that 84 percent of Americans believe ads tend to "over-hype" things, while 72 percent reported that they were tired of advertisers trying to grab their attention.

Online advertisers may take solace from one study finding. While more than half of Americans reported that there is too much advertising, 74 percent of those who participated said they use the internet to help them make better product choices.

"The study significantly uncovers a basic disconnect between the ad industry's world view and that of its audience," JWT's report said.
