Joost in time for fall

Let the real beta begin. Joost, the internet's answer to TV, has shed its invite-only status, opening its virtual doors to anyone with a high-speed internet connection, a tolerance for emerging technology and a hunger for professionally produced, ad-supported content.

Joost officially announced the news on its blog.

According to TechCrunch, Joost already built up about 1 million users through invitations, so opening the service to the public may not yield too much of an audience bump.

Joost, which has been in the works for more than a year, has been trying to crack the broadband TV riddle while simultaneously working closely with brands and advertisers to monetize the service. Most recently Joost inked a deal with BMW to be the site's exclusive automotive partner.
